About Athlone

Athlone community is situated in northwest Edmonton, south of 132 Avenue, and west of 127 Street, in Zone 1. Athlone is a mature neighbourhood and most of the development occurred in 1950s and 1960s. Some of the first buildings date back to 1930s. Dunvegan, which is located in the west part of Athlone, was developed in 1990s and thereafter. For recreation the neighbourhood’s Bellwether Park is on 131 Avenue, as well as soccer fields and a new public library and Athlones Community League. Athlone Public Elementary School and Sir John Thompson Catholic Junior High School also reside in this neighbourhood. Amenities such as; daycare centre, hair salon, deli, liquor stores and a Bronx Bowl are just down to the east on 127th Avenue. Athlone also offers quick access to Yellowhead and St Albert Trail, and more amenities along 137 Avenue. The new Africa Centre is currently under construction as well.
