Balwin community is situated in northeast Edmonton next to Yellowhead Corridor. Balwin was annexed by the City of Edmonton in 1912 and majority of the residential development occurred in 1960s. Bungalows are the most common type of dwelling found in the area. This neighbourhood is great for families with differing schools, parks and churches to choose from. Balwin’s residing schools are; Princeton Public School, Balwin Public Elementary and Junior High School, and St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Elementary School, as well as churches like; Christ the King Lutheran Church including a Christian preschool and St. Vladimir’s Russian Orthodox Church. To the southeast of the neighbourhood resides a Hungarian cultural society, Africa Centre and Fiji Sanatan Society of Alta. On Fort Road you will find; 7-11, Cash Canada, YEG Vapes, GlenBrook Pharmacy, Zenith Dental, and various automotive & repair shops. On 127 Avenue is Zoie Gardner Park, then a few blocks to west on 74th street is Balwin Park which includes a Community league offering events and sports like tennis, an ice arena for skating, basketball and a Community Rental Hall. There is a Day care centre on 68th street, KARA family resource centre and Army Cadets and a couple blocks over on 66th street are Fort Medical Clinic, Shoppers Simply Pharmacy, New Way Pizza, China Village, and Belvedere Chicken Bakery & Deli. Balwin offers quick access to Yellowhead Trail, Ford Road and to the east Belvedere’s LRT station.
