Garneau community is situated in south central Edmonton, overlooking the River Valley, next to University of Alberta Campus and University Hospital. Garneau is one of the oldest neighbourhoods in Edmonton and was annexed by the city in 1912. Named after former Metis rebel, Laurent Garneau. The majority of the residential properties in the area were built before World War II. This mature neighbourhood is home to many students, teachers, and medical professionals. Garneau is one of the most sought after communities with house pricing substantially above Edmonton’s average. Garneau Park and the City Arts Centre are located nearing the centre of the neighbourhood just off 109 Street where you’ll find Garneau Public Elementary School, Garneau University Early Learning Centre, a variety of amenites within a strip mall including a Safeway, McDonald's, Metro Cinema , gym, cafes, resteraunts , tattoo parlor, and retail stores. Braithwaite Park and more amenities are found on Garneau’s south border. Also known as one of Edmonton's hotspots: Whyte Ave (82 avenue), which includes College Plaza, a variety of health services, banks, cafes, salons, retail stores, tattoo parlor, financial services, restaurants, pharmacy, Saint John's Institute and more. 112 street is on the neighbourhood's west border resides; Earl's, Tim Hortons, Second Cup, Circle K convenient store, Edmonton Interfaith Centre for Education, and lastly, University of Alberta. Garneau is a great location, backing onto the North Saskatchewan River and Kingsmen Park which includes an outdoor pool, lodge, sports centre, baseball field, multi-use trails, great viewpoints, and the John Walter Museum. It would be very hard to be bored in Garneau being in such close proximity to the Downtown core as well as main attractions such as; The Royal Mayfair Golf Club, Edmonton Ski Club, Muttart Conservatory, Victoria Park and Gold Club, Alberta Legislature, Edmonton Zoo, Roger's Place and Hawrelak Park.
